On April 13, 2025, the XJTU Postgraduate English Public Speaking Contest, which also served as the campus round for the 15th Shaanxi Province Postgraduate English Public Speaking Contest, was successfully held.

Chen Xiangjing, Dean of SFS, delivered the opening address. She emphasized the growing importance of language learning in the era of rapid artificial intelligence development. Language, as a fundamental tool of human communication, plays an irreplaceable role in cross-cultural exchange, cultural communication, and the application of AI technologies.

She also noted that the contest not only tested participants' English proficiency, but also assessed their cultural confidence and global perspective. She encouraged students to take this opportunity to enhance their language skills and to better narrate China's stories to the world.

The contest, themed Carrying Forward Cultural Glory and Embarking on a New Chapter, was co-hosted by XJTU's Graduate School and SFS, and organized by the Postgraduate English Teaching Center of SFS.

The event attracted participation from master's students representing over ten schools. After a rigorous evaluation by the judging panel, the contest awarded 2 grand prizes, 4 first prizes, 6 second prizes, and 7 third prizes. The grand prize winners were Li Jiaxuan from SFS (English major group) and Wang Qirui from the School of Software Engineering (non-English major group).

International teacher Daniel Pennings offered feedback and advice on the contestants' performances.

This contest not only provided a platform for postgraduates to showcase their public speaking skills in English, but also further advanced XJTU's "learning through competition" initiative. Through the contest, students enhanced their language proficiency, cultural confidence, and international outlook.

Moving forward, XJTU will continue to strengthen postgraduate English education and contribute to cultivating high-quality talents with international competitiveness.
