School-Enterprise Cooperation

The School of Foreign Studies of XJTU has established the collaborative education mechanism with prestigious institutions and enterprises in the country. Experts from the language service industry, in particular, participate in the whole process of MTI Program including enrollment, teaching and translation practice. In this way, the talented personnel the school has trained can meet the demands of the society. The school-enterprise cooperation involves training high-level personnel in language service and external publicities, constructing corpus resources, developing and improving language service tools and customized professional working platforms.

Research Center of Foreign Languages for Medical Purposes

Xi’an Jiaotong University was among the first higher learning institutions in China to initiate the Postgraduate Program (1985) and the Undergraduate Program (1989) of English for Science and Technology (Medicine). In 2011 the School was authorized to offer a Master’s Program of Translation and Interpreting featuring in medicine. One year later, the school was authorized to offer a doctorate program of Interdisciplinary Studies of Linguistics and Culture. The language system and language acquisition research is interdisciplinary one based on brain science and cognitive mechanism, opening up a new area for medical English studies. At present, our school’s alumni of Medical English have become the backbones of medical colleges and universities, health institutions and medical journals, exerting a certain impact in their fields.

Team of Research Center of Foreign Languages for Medical Purposes

   The team is composed of professors, associate professors and lecturers with rich experience in medical English teaching, research and translation. They have published over 100 medical English textbooks, dictionaries, translated works and monographs. All these have promoted the dissemination of medical knowledge as well as the philosophy and methodology of medical English teaching.
