On the morning of February 27, 2025, SFS hosted its 27th career planning lecture, titled “You Control Your Own Life”. Guest speakers included Mr. Shen Renjie, Deputy Director of XJTU Student Career Development and Entrepreneurship Service Center, and Dr. Du Wenbo, a young faculty member under XJTU's Young Talent Support Program.
Mr. Shen Renjie addressed the challenging job market, advising students to leverage university resources and maintain confidence, conduct self-assessment for accurate career positioning, and make choices based on genuine interest rather than an escape from reality. He also suggested students thoughtfully explore diverse paths (employment, further study, or going abroad) thoughtfully, master job search essentials: information sourcing, employer selection, resume writing, and interview skills, utilize tools like the "STAR Method" and "Career Decision Balance Sheet" for self-evaluation, actively apply for positions, and make rational decisions.
Dr. Du Wenbo, focused on "Academic Pursuits and Career Development in the AI Era", shared his experience from three aspects: interest-driven paths, AI empowerment, and PhD planning. He introduced interest mapping analysis and case studies (e.g., Holland Codes) to align careers with personal interests. He also discussed the language services industry and shared AI tools for resume enhancement and mock interviews, emphasizing that human-AI collaboration is the key competence in this era. He suggested categorizing PhD motivations (academic passion, career requirement, transition period), advising careful consideration of research prospects and innovation potential before committing. He also encouraged students to improve their proficiency, cleverly use AI technology, and maintain the awareness of lifelong learning and skill development.
In closing, Ms. Xue Xuanji, a Student Advisor of SFS, provided an employment update for final-year Master's students. She commended everyone's proactive efforts and urged them to seize the prime March recruitment season, secure a job first and then seek ideal positions, and apply the speakers' advice, prepare thoroughly, and actively pursue opportunities.
Attendees found the lectures highly valuable, resolving to plan early, prepare diligently, take charge of their careers, and actively seek employment.
