The 2024 "FLTRP-ETIC CUP" "Understanding Contemporary China" National Foreign Language Contest for College Students concluded its Shaanxi provincial finals on November 3 at Xi'an International Studies University.
XJTU set a new record by winning 12 gold, 10 silver, and 3 bronze medals, ranking first in the number of gold medal across the English, Japanese, and French categories. By the end of 2024, 12 gold medalists along with 3 wildcard entrants will represent XJTU at the national finals in Beijing.
The "FLTRP-ETIC CUP" competition series, themed "Understanding China, Connecting the Globe," aims to guide university students to better narrate China's stories, drawing on material including Xi Jinping: The Governance of China.
The provincial contest, hosted by Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, saw 406 contestants advance from nearly 30,000 students from 58 universities, competing in 11 foreign languages in the June preliminary round.
Starting in spring 2024, SFS launched a structured selection and training plan for contestants. Promotions began in June, followed by a targeted summer course. Over 700 qualified students joined the September campus selection, after which SFS provided tailored coaching and group sessions for provincial-level contestants.
With strong support from XJTU's Engineering Workshop, Academic Affairs Department, and Graduate School, SFS placed great emphasis on this competition. Through its language competition bases and competition support teams, SFS helped students develop their language proficiency, critical thinking, and intercultural communication skills.
SFS will continue to enhance its competition-driven language practice model and promote the integration of curriculum, technology, and competitions. This will create a supportive environment that nurtures students with excellent language proficiency, global competence, and cross-cultural communication skills.
