On September 25, 2024, Professor Gu Yongqi, an internationally acclaimed scholar, visited SFS. Prof. Chen Xiangjing, Dean of SFS, Li Ying and Cheng Bing, Vice Deans of SFS, and Prof. Meng Yaru held a collaborative discussion with Professor Gu, reaching preliminary agreements on joint graduate programs, student exchanges, and academic collaboration.
Prior to the discussion, Professor Gu delivered an academic lecture titled "Computer-based formative assessment for language teachers" to faculty and students of SFS.
Professor Gu Yongqi, a distinguished applied linguist, teaches at School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies of Victoria University of Wellington, where he previously served as the Dean. With extensive teaching and teacher education experience in New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Chinese Mainland, his research focuses on language testing and assessment, vocabulary teaching and foreign language learning strategies, and teacher professional development. He received the 2004 Thomson Heinle Distinguished Research Award from the TESOL International Association. He is a former editor of the Asian Journal of English Language Teaching (2006-2010) and currently series editor (with Guoxing Yu of Bristol) of a book series entitled Pedagogical Content Knowledge for English Language Teachers published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP), the largest university press in China.
