At the invitation of Professor Jin Zhong of SFS, Professor Shi Weiguo from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature at Shandong University visited SFS and delivered an academic lecture titled "Translation Curriculum Construction and Development" on September 23, 2024.

Beginning with redefining "translation studies" and its relationship with other disciplines, Professor Shi analyzed the differences between master's and doctoral programs in translation education, shared curriculum development plans for different academic stages, and emphasized the critical role of translation practice in talent development. He also proposed specific requirements for advancing translation curricula through multidimensional perspectives.

Additionally, Professor Shi shared insights into the challenges and reflections in translation practice and engaged in interactive discussions with the attendees. He stressed the pivotal role of foreign language disciplines in cultural understanding, dissemination, and the construction of advanced culture, underscoring the significant contemporary relevance of interdisciplinary integration and talent development.

About the Speaker: Shi Weiguo is a Distinguished Professor at Shandong University, Director of Shandong University Oriental Culture Research Center, and a PhD supervisor. With over 30 published monographs and translations and more than 100 published academic papers, his honors include the "Special Translation Award" granted by the Japan Association of Translators. He has long been committed to the exploration and dissemination of Oriental culture, as well as the promotion of multiculturalism and interdisciplinary educational research.
