On May 15, 2026, the XJTU Campus Round of the 9th "SFLEP Cup" National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest was held at the Shaw Building.

The contest attracted 73 students from over 10 departments. Following an online preliminary round, 15 finalists advanced to the on-campus competition, which was judged by five SFS faculty members: Qian Xi, Dong Yanyun, Sun Changhong, Zhu Liyun, and Zhang Jingjie.

The final round consisted of two segments: Impromptu Speech and "Telling China's Stories". With only six minutes of preparation after receiving their prompts, contestants addressed topics such as "Music as a Universal Language", "The Importance of Implied Meaning in Intercultural Communication", and "AI-Generated Culture". Contestants demonstrated profound insights into intercultural communication through fluent English expression and agile responses.

The competition awarded 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes, and 7 third prizes, with top-performing students selected as a team to represent XJTU in the upcoming provincial contest.

As a prestigious foreign language discipline competition, the "SFLEP Cup" was officially included in the "National College Student Competition Rankings" in 2023. Through this event, students not only showcased their communication skills but also broadened their global perspectives and enhanced their professional competence through practical engagement.
