To help students clarify their career directions, understand internship and employment trends in Internet companies, and master job-hunting skills, SFS held its 35th session of Career Planning Lecture Series. This session focused on Internship and Employment at Internet Companies, with Xia Yan, a 2023 postgraduate majoring in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, as the speaker.
Xia Yan has served as an intern in many well-known Internet companies and obtained offers as product manager from several enterprises. Combining her rich internship experience at companies such as Nestlé, Xiaohongshu, ByteDance, and Alibaba, she sorted out full-process strategies for Internet internships and campus recruitment. She suggested that foreign language students can give full play to their language advantages in job hunting, and make up for insufficient experience by polishing their academic background, project works, and resumes. She also advised students to seek opportunities in fields such as cross-border e-commerce and international business.
Xia Yan also elaborated on the responsibilities and development paths of several core positions, such as product manager, operation, and marketing. Taking product manager as an example, she analyzed the entire workflow from demand mining and product design to development and launch, and categorized specialized tracks such as user growth, commercialization, and AI product management. This helped students clarify the logical framework for career choices.
Facing the increasingly competitive job market, Xia Yan pointed out that securing a full-time offer through summer internships has become a major channel before the real job-hunting season. She advised students to plan early and prepare well in advance. She shared a strategy of gradually building internship experience and developing a personal portfolio by participating in competitions, club activities, and social media operations, thereby strengthening their competitiveness in the job market. She also encouraged students to take the initiative to communicate during internships to gain access to more resources and opportunities. She urged them to accumulate experience through internships, making the most of every small platform to win bigger opportunities.
During the Q&A session, Xia answered the audience's questions concerning job transition, internship duration, career development, and other topics. She explained the feasibility of transferring from operation to product management, shared sights into the corporate culture, performance evaluation and promotion mechanism of Internet companies, and encouraged students to maintain internal motivation, take the initiative to learn, and grow rapidly in a high-pressure environment.
This sharing session integrated real cases and practical strategies to help students clarify career paths and development prospects in the Internet industry, providing a new and clear perspective on cross-sector employment for foreign language majors. Looking forward, SFS will continue to build high-quality platforms to support students in seeking job opportunities and future development.
