The Foreign Language and Literature discipline at XJTU has risen to 20th place in the 2025 ShanghaiRanking's Best Chinese Subjects, marking a significant leap from 53rd place in 2024 and placing it in the top 9% of the 240 universities evaluated nationwide.

Released on October 15 by ShanghaiRanking, a leading higher education evaluation institution, the ranking covers 98 first-level disciplines and 5 professional degree categories across Chinese universities, and is widely recognized as an important indicator of academic competitiveness. XJTU's strong performance reflects its solid academic foundation, outstanding research capacity, and expanding social impact. This year's result represents a breakthrough for SFS, positioning the discipline among the top tier of foreign language and literature disciplines in China.

The Foreign Language and Literature discipline has made steady progress since its establishment through strengthened faculty development, enhanced research platforms, and increased interdisciplinary integration. Since receiving authorization to confer a doctoral program in Foreign Language and Literature in 2023, SFS has further optimized its disciplinary structure and accelerated innovation. Over the past five years, the discipline has secured multiple national and provincial research projects, published a significant number of academic works and high-impact journal articles, and contributed policy recommendations adopted by central and provincial authorities. It has also established several high-level research platforms to support language, culture, and international communication studies.
