On the afternoon of June 12, 2025, SFS held a review meeting to evaluate the proposal to add the Language Data Science track to its Japanese and French degree programs. The meeting aimed to assess the necessity and feasibility of the new track in response to the growing demand for foreign language professionals with interdisciplinary skills in the AI era.
The review panel was chaired by Professor Wu Yuxin, Dean of the Graduate School at Xi'an International Studies University. Other experts included professors from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature at Shandong University and SFS.

Professor Chen Xiangjing, Dean of SFS, delivered the opening remarks. She outlined the key challenges currently confronting foreign language education. She highlighted that, in the context of AI, majors such as Japanese and French Studies must embrace adaptation by launching new academic tracks such as Language Data Science, to cultivate talents aligned with national development strategies and market needs.
During the session, Cao Hongquan, Director of the Japanese Department of SFS, and Zeng Zhu, Director of the French Department of SFS, presented detailed reports on the background, purposes, talent demands, curriculum design, as well as the challenges and solutions for each program's proposed Language Data Science track.
The expert panel carefully reviewed both proposals and held in-depth discussions. They concluded that the new tracks represent a forward-looking reform in the foreign language education and reflect XJTU's commitment to both tradition and innovation.
They also offered constructive feedback on curriculum design. They emphasized the importance of maintaining core language competency education while implementing a flexible track-switching mechanism, allowing students to choose between traditional and data-oriented tracks. Additional recommendations included streamlining course modules, refining content, addressing student career path, and strengthening connections with postgraduate opportunities both domestically and abroad.
In her closing remarks, Chen expressed sincere appreciation for the expert panel's insights. She affirmed that SFS will advance the program reform, aiming to establish the Language Data Science track as a hallmark of its undergraduate programs.
