On December 9, 2024, the national finals of the FLTRP·ETIC Cup “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students concluded in Beijing, attracting over 4,000 contestants to showcase China’s development through multilingual storytelling. XJTU students excelled in their performances, claiming 7 silver and 12 bronze medals—a record-breaking achievement for the institution in this prestigious event.

The event—hosted by Beijing Foreign Studies University and organized by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press—has been recognized for six features years as a top-tier competition by the China Association of Higher Education. It features three categories (English, multilingual, and international Chinese) across 11 languages. This year, nearly 700,000 participants from 1,300 institutions competed in university, provincial, and national rounds. Guangming Daily highlighted the contest as a vital platform for advancing the integration of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China into curriculum and practice.

XJTU’s success stemmed from robust institutional support, alongside SFS's systematic training via its “Foreign Language Competition Hub” and specialized teaching teams. Students honed their linguistic proficiency, critical thinking, and cross-cultural communication skills through structured preparation.

Moving forward, SFS will refine its competition-based educational model, integrating curriculum innovation, technological empowerment, and practical training to foster a holistic learning ecosystem. This approach aims to cultivate versatile talents with exceptional language proficiency, global competence, and cross-cultural adaptability.
