To help students explore career opportunities in accounting firms and plan their professional paths, the 24th session of the Career Planning Lecture Series, entitled "Careers in Accounting Firms", was successfully held on December 1, 2024. The event was organized by the Class 3123 (Master's Program) and supported by the SFS's Career Development Studio and the Graduate Student Union.

The guest speaker was Liu Peiyao, a 2024 graduate of SFS's MTI Program (Japanese Interpreting direction). Liu has independently translated two books, Subtext: How People Use Behavior to Express the Unspeakable and Garden Plant Design Manual. During her studies, she interned at Huanqiu.com, FLTRP (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press), China Merchants Bank, China Construction Bank, and Deloitte China. She currently works in the Tax and Business Advisory team at Deloitte Beijing.

Liu shared insights on academic time management, career options, and how foreign language graduates can apply their skills in the finance and tax industries.

Liu began by sharing her internship experiences. She noted that news agencies and publishing houses are good options for students seeking field-specific jobs, while banks offer broader opportunities that emphasize general competence and marketing thinking. She also shared details about her Deloitte internship, including the full-time conversion process and recruitment insights, advising non-English majors to prepare for AI interviews.

Liu also shared interview preparation tips, covering group interviews and manager interviews, and outlined the basic structure and job responsibilities of accounting firms.

Liu then discussed tax practice and career development, focusing on tax controversy and dispute resolutions, diverse roles and projects within accounting firms, the impact of certifications on salary and promotion, and various future career paths.

Additionally, Liu advised students to develop cross-disciplinary skills, maintain work-life balance in high-pressure environments, and leverage online internship resources.

In the Q&A session, attendees actively asked questions about internship opportunities in accounting firms, which Liu addressed in detail.

The seminar offered practical insights for attendees to navigate career paths in accounting fields.
