XJTU held the closing ceremony of its 22nd Foreign Culture Festival on November 8, 2024. University leaders, representatives from the SFS, faculty members, and students attended the event.

He Jin, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, noted that spanning 22 years, the Foreign Culture Festival has fostered a vibrant campus cultural environment and broadened students' international horizons. She emphasized the crucial role of foreign languages as gateways to the world, urging students to sharpen their linguistic skills to enhance the international competitiveness.

Zhang Chang'an, Secretary of the SFS Party Committee, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and reflected on the festival's original intent, that is, to cultivate foreign language talents and serve the nation. He stressed that in an era of globalization, as China plays a central role on the world stage, proficiency in foreign language has become indispensable. The SFS remains committed to creating a robust learning environment, supporting national opening-up strategies, and promoting mutual learning among civilizations.

With the theme "Embracing Global Wisdom, Crafting Shared Splendor", the Foreign Culture Festival showcased students' linguistic proficiency through a diverse range of competitions. The festival recognized over 500 participants across 21 multilingual competitions, covering English (speech, debate, short film, translation, calligraphy), French (speech, recitation, talent show), Japanese (dubbing, recitation, talent show, interpretation), Russian (recitation), German (film dubbing), and Spanish (writing, recitation, talent show).

The festival reached its climax with a vibrant joint performance, including English orations centered on "love for XJTU" and the "spirit of China"; a 3-minute academic English presentation on conceptual metaphors in linguistics; a humorous German dubbing of A Hoax; a lively French dubbing segment; a touching Japanese dubbing of Your Name; spirited covers of English songs Price Tag and Wonderful U; as well as the Spanish song Yo Me Voy al Manzanares and the Russian song Snow Falls.

Lasting nearly two months, this year's Foreign Culture Festival attracted over 5,000 enthusiastic students to participate. As a signature campus cultural event, it provides a platform for students to practice languages, deepen cross-cultural understanding, and broaden their global perspectives. Using language as a bridge, the festival demonstrates XJTU students' cultural literacy and innovative spirit while injecting youthful energy into promoting global intercultural exchange.
