On March 4, 2026, ahead of World Obesity Day, World Obesity Atlas 2026 was released globally in both English and Chinese languages. The report focuses on childhood obesity worldwide and calls for strengthened international cooperation to address the growing challenges posed by obesity and related chronic diseases. All core translation work was completed by faculty and students from the MTI program at SFS.
With the joint efforts of the Obesity Prevention and Control Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society, the Global Health Institute of XJTU, the International Obesity and Metabolic Diseases Center (IOMC), and SFS, the translation project was led by Ji Le and Xue Jie from the MTI Education Center of SFS, with Master's candidates Zhang Jiangtao, Chu Siqi, Zhang Wei, and Liu Lingyan as team members. They worked intensively over the Spring Festival holiday and completed the translation, proofreading, and typesetting of the report with high quality and efficiency, ensuring the simultaneous online release of both Chinese and English language versions on the World Obesity Federation website on World Obesity Day. An abridged version was also released on CNKI at the same time.
This marks the third consecutive year that MTI faculty and students have contributed to the English-to-Chinese translation of the annual World Obesity Atlas. Leveraging SFS's long-standing expertise and strengths in medical translation education, the team has upheld rigorous professional standards of accuracy, precision, and efficiency. Their work has guaranteed the report's academic integrity and readability, thereby delivering high-quality knowledge services to Chinese readers.
Representing the translation team, Ji Le was invited to speak at the "World Obesity Day—China in Action" Summit Forum on Obesity Prevention and Control held on the morning of March 4. During her presentation, she elaborated on the background and significance of the Chinese version's release before summarizing its core content. The forum was jointly organized by the Obesity Prevention and Control Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society, GHI and IOMC of XJTU, together with over 100 domestic and international institutions. Livestreamed via major media platforms including the People Daily Health App, Sohu News, and Medlive, the event attracted more than 1.1 million online viewers, setting a new attendance record.
By producing this high-quality translation, the XJTU MTI team has built a critical bridge for health information exchange between China and the world, raised scientific awareness among the general public and policymakers nationwide, and boosted progress toward a "Healthy China" initiative. Globally, the team's work constitutes a valuable Chinese contribution to global health governance, facilitating extensive international cooperation, and advancing the building of a global community of health for all. Going forward, the MTI Education Center will continue to deepen its expertise in medical language services to further strengthen China's voice and influence in international health discourse.
