A Delegation from Tianjin Foreign Studies University Visits SFS

On the afternoon of November 29, 2024, a delegation led by Xi Na, Dean of the School of Japanese Studies at Tianjin Foreign Studies University (TFSU), along with Vice Dean Shen Xia and department directors, visited SFS. Prof. Zhang Chang’an, Secretary of the SFS Party Committee, and other SFS leaders and faculty representatives met with the delegation. The two sides held discussions and exchanged views.



Xi Na introduced TFSU’s five major innovative talent cultivation initiatives: the Industrial College, Top Innovative Talent Training Program, International Joint Training Program, Inter-University Collaborative Training Program, and Minor/Micro-Major/Course Cluster Programs. She specifically highlighted the challenges and difficulties faced by the School of Japanese Studies regarding disciplinary and faculty development.

Zhang Chang’an welcomed the delegation on behalf of the SFS and briefed on SFS's development. He also shared SFS's new measures for disciplinary and faculty development, emphasizing a dual focus on teaching and research and student-centered education. He also highlighted the outcomes of student work models, such as the one-stop service community and joint faculty-student Party branches. Zhang Wenli, Director of the Japanese Department, detailed the experiences gained in the Japanese undergraduate program, public foreign language courses, and smart course construction through continuous exploration. She also addressed the bottlenecks encountered in developing a Japanese major within a comprehensive university and outlined its potential.

Both sides held extensive discussions on key topics, including Japanese major development and new degree program applications. They also conducted in-depth deliberations on the future development trajectory of Japanese studies, talent cultivation strategies leveraging institutional strengths, and research agendas aligned with national strategic needs. The two sides expressed their commitment to further strengthening inter-university and inter-school exchanges and their expectation to better serve national strategic needs through cooperation.
