The Chinese student team from XJTU claimed the Top Prize in the Shaanxi regional round of the 7th SFLEP Cup National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest, held at Shaanxi Normal University on October 20, 2024.

The team consisted of Liu Yulin (English major), Chen Yanjin (Clinical Medicine major), and Li Jiayi (Automation major). Their coaches, Huang Ping'an, Dong Yanyun, and Sun Changhong from SFS, were recognized as Outstanding Instructors.

After several preliminary rounds, 8 out of 40 teams advanced to the finals of the Shaanxi regional contest. The XJTU team won the first prize and will represent Shaanxi Province in the national finals this December.

The Preliminary Round assessed intercultural communication through a role-play case performance, case analysis, and Q&A, while the final round featured a speech on "Telling Chinese Stories", scenario-based commentaries, and Q&A.

SFS attached great importance to the competition: the promotion was launched early in June, and the campus selection was completed by July 3. The selected student team trained throughout the summer and into September, with faculty mentors advising on topic design, scriptwriting, theory application, and rehearsal.

The National College Students' Intercultural Competence Contest is hosted by Shanghai International Studies University and organized by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. As one of the most prestigious foreign language competitions in China, it provides a platform for Chinese students and faculty to showcase intercultural communication skills and exchange teaching practices.
