On the afternoon of April 7, 2026, the 306th lecture of the Foreign Language and Culture Forum was held at SFS. Professor Yu Zemin, a distinguished writer and long-term Hungary-based translator, was invited as the speaker. Under the theme My Three-in-One: Reading, Writing and Translation, Professor Yu shared his insights into language learning, cross-cultural communication and youth development. Shi Yuxuan, Assistant to the Dean of SFS, presided over the lecture.

During the lecture, Professor Yu recounted his remarkable cross-border and cross-disciplinary life experiences. He once studied medicine and fine arts before residing in Hungary, where he dedicated himself to writing and translation. His medical background fostered a rational perspective on life and the human body, while his pursuit of artistic and spiritual exploration guided him toward the realm of literature and translation.

He elaborated on his core philosophy of integrating reading, writing and translation. As he put it, reading is absorption, writing internalization, and translation recreation. This insightful view offers practical guidance for foreign language learners. He also noted that consistent reading lays a solid foundation for self-improvement, and encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones and polish their language proficiency and cross-cultural creativity through hands-on practice.

Students attending the forum remarked that Professor Yu's interdisciplinary experiences and academic philosophy were both enlightening and pragmatic, providing valuable guidance for their studies, career planning and cross-cultural communication.

This lecture further enriched the academic and cultural atmosphere of SFS. It elaborated a new perspective on the intrinsic relationship among reading, writing, and translation, and motivated faculty and students to improve their comprehensive literacy, strengthen cultural confidence, and engage more actively in cross-cultural exchanges.
